Lymphoderm: A Brief History

In the early 1990's, a few years after I began treating clients with Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD), I had the privilege of opening an MLD clinic at a Boca Raton, Florida, hospital. As far as I know it was the first clinic of its kind in South Florida and while I have since moved on, I'm happy to report the clinic is still in operation today. One of the first things I discovered working at the hospital was that skin fungus, skin irritations, and skin ulcers as secondary conditions to the edema were a common problem. It was also a serious problem. Left untreated, those conditions may easily lead to infection, hospitalization and, in some cases, even amputation. I began searching for a lotion that would meet the specific skin care needs of lymphedema patients and while the search proved futile it afforded me a wonderful opportunity.

My training in European Spa, where physical therapy and rehabilitation are commonly linked to natural practices, had introduced me to the healing benefits of botanicals and seaweed in treating skin and circulation disorders. I sought out the help of a friend who develops natural based products for the spa industry and between his ‘alchemy’ skills and my background in the use of natural agents, we developed the formula for Lymphoderm. We tested it first on ourselves, then in a clinical trial. The tests were positive and we began using Lymphoderm in the hospital clinic. Patients began purchasing Lymphoderm for home care use and the word began to spread.

Today Lymphoderm is used in hundreds of hospitals and clinics around the country and by thousands of patients as part of their home care use. Apart from this website, Lymphoderm’s growth has been by word of mouth - people like you talking to one another – and I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you for your continued support.
